General Questions
I am currently having symptoms. Where can I get tested?
If you have COVID-19 symptoms, please contact your health care provider. However, you can also get tested through Yolo County or Healthy Davis Together for free.
If you have COVID-19 symptoms (symptomatic), you can walk in at the Mondavi Center for testing. Please do not schedule a testing appointment through the Healthy Davis Together website.
I don’t live or work in Davis, and I’m not a UC Davis student or employee. Where can I get tested?
Yolo County residents can find testing site information here.
How much does it cost to be tested at Healthy Davis Together?
Testing through Healthy Davis Together is free.
Do you offer rapid testing?
We offer rapid antigen testing using a sample obtained through a nasal swab for community members who meet certain criteria. These criteria are: currently having COVID-19 symptoms or close contact with a COVID-19 positive person.
If you are unsure whether you should make an appointment for saliva testing or come in for a nasal swab test, please call 530-754-8378 and select option 3.
Who can accompany a minor for testing?
Any adult can accompany a minor for testing, e.g. parent, grandparent, etc.
What do I need to bring to my testing appointment?
You will receive a QR code when you register for an appointment. Please have it available so we can verify that appointment code when you arrive. You will also need to wear a face covering, like a mask, that covers your mouth and nose while at our testing sites.
Do I need to do anything to prepare for the test?
Please do not eat, drink, chew gum, smoke, or brush your teeth for 30 minutes before your testing appointment. Doing so may affect your saliva sample and cause your test to be inaccurate.
Find more details about how to prepare for testing and what to expect during testing here.
Account and Appointments Questions
How do I make an appointment for testing?
Please create a Healthy Davis Together account here.
You will receive a text message with your Point and Click portal registration code at the mobile phone number you provided. You will need this code to finish creating your Healthy Davis Together account before scheduling a testing appointment.

What is the agency code?
The agency code is “davis”. Note: Please use a lower case “d”.
You will be asked for an agency code at the start of the Healthy Davis Together account creation process.
Is an appointment required?
We strongly recommend creating an account and making an appointment ahead of time to streamline the process for you and save you time.
We will accommodate walk-ins for saliva testing as possible, but you will need to create a Healthy Davis Together account at the testing site if you do not already have one.
However, you can walk in at the Mondavi Center testing site for a nose swab test if you are currently having COVID-19 symptoms or you have been in close contact with somebody who is positive for COVID-19.
Can I make an appointment for my children who are under 18 years old?
Yes. A parent or guardian can create dependent accounts under their own Healthy Davis Together account. Our technical support team can help you with this at 530-754-8382 or accountsupport@healthydavistogether.org

COVID-19 Test Questions
Do you use a polymerase chain reaction (PCR), molecular test?
Our saliva test is performed using polymerase chain reaction (PCR), also known as a molecular test. You can learn more about different types of COVID-19 tests here.
How accurate is the saliva test? Is it accurate compared to the nose or mouth swab?
The saliva test is 88% sensitive if the pre-test directions are followed.
Is this a COVID-19 antibody test?
No. The saliva test Healthy Davis Together uses tests for a current COVID-19 infection, not antibodies from a previous COVID-19 infection or vaccination.
Can I use my test result for travel?
We use a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, also known as a molecular test, for our saliva test. We do not guarantee that our test will be accepted for any travel requirements. Please verify with your airline or other travel provider.
I have received the COVID-19 vaccine. Can I still test to see if I have COVID-19, or will the vaccine make me test positive?
You can continue to test for COVID-19 after you have gotten the COVID-19 vaccine. You will only test positive if you have COVID-19. The COVID-19 vaccine will not cause you to have a “false positive” result.
Test Results Questions
How do I check my test result?
You will receive a text message to the mobile phone number you used to create your Healthy Davis Together account when your test result is ready. Click the link in the text message and log into your Healthy Davis Together account to view your test result.
When will I get my test result?
Most people receive their result within 24 to 48 hours after their test. If positive, you will also get a follow up call from our clinical staff.
I went to test at the same time as somebody else. They already have their test result back, but I don’t have mine yet. Is my test result missing?
This is a common occurrence. Samples are not always delivered to the lab or unpacked for testing in the same order in which they were collected. Samples are also tested in batches, so adjacent samples may end up in different test batches.
If fewer than 48 hours have passed since you were tested, please continue to wait for your result. At this point, somebody else receiving their test result does not indicate that your test result is lost or that your sample had a problem.
If it has been longer than 48 hours since you were tested, please contact our clinical support line at 530-754-8378 and select option 3.
Who will see my test results?
We take your privacy seriously. Our lab and clinical team members will only access your chart to perform their work duties. We are required to report positive test results to the California Department of Public Health.
What happens if I test positive for COVID-19?
If your saliva sample tests positive for COVID-19, you will be contacted by one of Healthy Davis Together’s clinicians by phone who will inform you of your test result and talk to you about contacting your health care provider, if you have one, discussing options and available resources for safely isolating from friends, family and/or roommates, and addressing work and other questions you may have.
Can you send my test results to my primary care provider or employer?
We are currently unable to securely send private health information, including test results.
Positive COVID-19 Test Results Questions
How long do I need to isolate if I have a positive test result?
Healthy Davis Together advises you to isolate in your home away from any other household members or pets for whichever is longer:
– 10 days from the day you tested and the result was positive
or
– if you develop fever or shortness of breath, 24 hours after the fever breaks without the use of medication or shortness of breath has improved
Your recommended isolation period will be at least 10 days long but may be longer if you get a fever or shortness of breath.
I have very mild symptoms or do not have any symptoms at all, but I got a positive test result. How is this possible?
There is a wide range of how COVID-19 affects people, from no symptoms at all (asymptomatic) to being on life support in the ICU. Some health conditions like high blood pressure or diabetes have been shown to put people at higher risk for more severe COVID-19 disease. We are still learning more about COVID-19 and the virus that causes it.
I don’t go anywhere and I am very careful when I go out. How could I have gotten COVID-19?
Infection rates are higher in our area than they have been previously. Doing the same activities you have been doing since March 2020 that never got you sick before are riskier now because you are more likely to be near an infected person.
We are also seeing many mild or asymptomatic (no symptoms) cases in our area. You may have come in contact with somebody who did not seem like they were sick or did not realize they were sick.
Do I need to retest to get a negative result?/When should I retest to make sure I am no longer positive?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends a symptom-based strategy, not retesting. This means your isolation should end based on your symptoms, not a negative retest. After a positive COVID-19 test, please isolate for whichever is longer:
– 10 days from the day you tested and the result was positive
or
– if you develop fever or shortness of breath, 24 hours after the fever breaks without the use of medication or shortness of breath has improved
If you tested positive for COVID-19 and recovered, retesting is not recommended for 90 days from when your COVID-19 symptoms first started or from your positive COVID-19 test if you did not ever develop symptoms (asymptomatic). However, if you fully recover from COVID-19 and later develop new COVID-19 symptoms within the 90-day window, retesting is advised to determine whether you have been reinfected.
