As UC Davis epidemiologists, public health experts, campus coordinators, business owners and city officials worked together to implement a community-wide approach, we captured these efforts to share what we learn so other communities and college towns can apply what works.

Since February 2021, Healthy Davis Together has successfully administered 11,106 vaccines, with a majority (42%) of patients identifying as Hispanic or Latinx, through its exclusive commitment to vaccine equity and strategic deployment of effective outreach strategies designed to address barriers to access.

Quarantine and isolation can be difficult for individuals and families who live in close quarters or who can’t work virtually resulting in lost wages. In order to address these barriers, Healthy Davis Together extends quarantine and isolation support, including housing, food, and salary support, to all HDT-qualified infected individuals and close contacts. This case study outlines HDT’s approach to quarantine and isolation, and lessons learned that can be applied by others in the future.

HDT’s Business Partners Program has supported the local economy directly through grants, gift card purchasing, PPE distribution, employee and family testing, business marketing, and public health and safety guidance. While free testing for COVID-19 was the initial reason many businesses joined, grants to help businesses transition to COVID-safe practices together with gift cards purchased by HDT, have had huge benefits for cash-strapped businesses.

Healthy Davis Together convened and partnered directly with Yolo County, community-based organizations, and ÒRALE—an NIH-funded research project—to support Yolo County’s large population of agricultural workers. Together, these organizations provided culturally competent services including isolation, food and income-replacement support, COVID-19 testing, COVID-19 vaccinations, and strategic communications to ensure equitable access to resources throughout the pandemic.
